March News - Lake Desire Community

1. Wine Tasting Fundraiser this Saturday – 3/9/13 – 5:30pm We have a few spots left for this fun event on Saturday 3/9/13 at 5:30pm at The Wine Alley in Fairwood. Come for an evening of light snacks and wine tasting. This event will help us raise money for capital improvements at the Clubhouse.  $20 per person - Please RSVP soon by contacting Heather Stafford, 425-917-0336 or staffordlkdesire@gmail.com

2. Lake Desire Easter Egg Hunt – Sat. 3/30/13 – 1pm. Bring your kiddos to our small but fun Easter Egg Hunt. After having been to many very, very large hunts over the years with our kids, it’s really neat to have such a sweet place around the grounds of the Clubhouse to search for eggs. Bring a healthy snack to share, the candy filled eggs are provided by the LDCC. Want to help? We are can always use help hiding eggs.

3. Thank you for your memberships! We very much appreciate the memberships you have mailed in. Your membership funds help maintain this wonderful community resource. You can also pay online if you wish for the $20/family or $15/senior membership to Lake Desire Community Club, just reply to this mail to learn how. Check out our website http://www.lakedesire.org/ to see upcoming Community events.

4. Concern about traffic on Parkside Drive Several neighbors have mentioned concern over the inability to see oncoming traffic when turning left off of Woodside Drive onto Parkside Drive. We learned that they will only make it a 4-way stop if traffic is equal in both directions. If you have concerns and would like to speak to someone in traffic management, please call Keith Brown – 206-263-6132. It is suggested they could at least trim the vegetation along Parkside to increase the view, or consider another method (i.e. roundabout?).

5. Lake Desire Community Center cleanup day – Sat. 4/20/13 – 9am Please join us on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 for some pre-Earth Day volunteer fun. We will be doing our spring cleaning of the grounds, spreading gravel in the parking lot at the Community Center and also sprucing up the inside. We could definitely use the help, so come on out! Please reply to this email with any questions about how you can help.

6. Light trespass from Petrovitsky Park Another issue that has been brought up at recent meetings is the bright lights from the sports fields at Petrovitsky Park. We are hoping to reach out to King County Parks to see if the lights can be redirected or have shields added to cut down on the bright lights coming across the lake, sometimes at late hours. Please reply to staffordlkdesire@gmail.com if you have any concerns likewise.  If you would like to inquire directly at the Parks Department, their main number is 206-296-8687 and the park location is 16400 Petrovitsky Rd SE Renton WA 98058.

7. Plant and Seed Swap – Sat. 5/11/13 – Gardeners, mark your calendars for our 2nd annual Plant and Seed Swap at the Community Club on Saturday, May 11th at 10am. Bring your extra seedlings, plants and seeds to share with your neighbors and come see what everyone else has to share. This was a big hit last year, looking forward to it again this year!

8. Roadside Cleanup – Sat. 5/18/13 Mark your calendars as well for our twice-yearly roadside cleanup. We will meet on Saturday, May 18th at the Boat Launch to fan out and clean up the roads around the neighborhood. We do this twice a year, May and October, and King County provides bags and will come collect the trash when we are done from the Community Center.  Can’t make it on Saturday 5/18? Feel free to pick up trash in your own area and drop it by the tree closest to the street at the Community Center any time before 5/20. Questions? Contact Heather Stafford at staffordlkdesire@gmail.com.
